Access to safe drinking water in rural areas by provision of 1,000 Nadi filter water units in Jati coastal area of district Thatta
 

Summary

The 20 vulnerable villages will be selected in Jati area where women fetching canal water from the near by water courses for the drinking purposes. After the selection 20 women groups organized and about 25 women from each village will be elected for women CBO formation. After the selection of the 20 women CBOs in 20 villages the 4-TOT workshop will be organized. The TOT training will be conducted among the women participants selected at the average of 5 women from each village and the venue will be nearby by the AHD filed office. The women selection criteria will 3 participants from each village total 30 women attend the TOT workshop. After the TOT workshop 50 Bio-Sand Nadi filter units will provided to the 50 families in one village and 5 trained women will help other women to prepare Nadi filter units at the household level. The 1,000 Nadi filter units will be completed within first 6 months and 20 health and hygiene workshops will be organized and capacity of the local women will be build towards safe & clean drinking water to save their women and children from the dangerous waterborne diseases towards sustainable development and about 12,000 peoples drinking safe and clean water through this project.


The awareness meetings and workshops will also be conducted to promote awareness on health and hygiene as the community is using stagnant water, open water course as well as canals in result they are facing many water born diseases like: gastro, Diheria, and other health problems. Children are most affected by gastro, Diheria and water born diseases in the coastal rural area of Jati district Thatta.  


AHD believe that if 1,000 family’s women representatives will learn the health hygiene and safe drinking water technique than they will be able to save their children and themselves from the Gastro and Diheria cases and different health hygiene related diseases. Through awareness and trainings and organizing of the Self help Groups they will lead their local women towards their capacity building and the women will be able to move towards better socio-economic conditions within a year time frame. Provision of the Bio Sand Nadi filter units at their door steps will save women access to safe drinking water at household level.

Key Activities

Bio-sand nadi water filter units- The 20 women CBOs will be formed and facilitated to help & prepare the distribution list with the consultation of project coordinator and filed workers and to ensure the membership and beneficiary selection criteria.
- Selection of 50 poor families in one village and total 1,000 families from 20 villages for the provision and distribution of the Bio-Sand Nadi filter units at their doorstep.  
- Procurement of Nadi filter material and distribution among the 20 village based CBOs through the participation of the CBO executive’s members within first quarter. 
- Organization of the 4 TOT training on Nadi filters unit’s preparation among 100 women at the average of 25 women in each TOT workshop at the average of 5 women from 20 villages.  
- To ensure the lists and signatures of the beneficiaries on receipts during the distribution of the Nadi filter units in the 20 CBOs. 
- The Nadi filter units installation will be monitored to ensure the proper use and its running in 1, 000 families for the provision of safe drinking water in 12,000 individuals. 
- 20 health trainings on health & hygiene practices conducted among 20 villages women groups.   
- Filed worker and coordinator will conduct weekly and fortnightly visits and conduct door to door visits in 20 village based CBOs. 
- Identification of the problems and solution though the consultation of the CBO executives and CBOs. . 
- Field workers will submit monthly progress and activities reports to the project coordinators. 
- The project coordinator will report to the project director fortnightly and monthly on regular basis. 
- To prepare action plans along with the CBO executive members and DMC members to ensure the proper implementation of the project activities.
