Promoting 3R Concept (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) For the Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Gokarneswor Village Development Committee of Kathmandu Valley

Summary
Sustainable solid waste management demands integrated approach which must include the indigenous technologies and community participation. The innovative approach is to utilize the synergy developed through mobilization of the public private partnership where the community, business, industries, organizations are intensively involved in the waste management at source, formal and informal private sector are involved for providing waste management services and the municipality and the government are providing policy support, facilitates and provides motivation, incentives and monitor the environmental conditions.

The project aims to involve all the stakeholders in the community of Gokarneswor Village area to implement the 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) concepts to manage solid waste to protect the environment. A series of activities will be performed which ranges from formation of volunteer group, training the volunteers and stakeholders, providing technical supports and awareness-raising campaigns. By the end of the project, it is expected that the amount of solid waste produced in the areas is minimized, enhanced community awareness and motivation to protect and restore the environment, economic upliftment of disadvantaged/marginalized groups and set the village as a demonstration to other vicinity areas.

Activity 7: Waste Management Education in Schools and Campus levels
Activity 8: Assistance for Business Incubation of Waste Recycling Enterprises
Activity 9: Develop Schemes for Motivation, Incentives, and Rewards
Activity 10: National Workshop on Waste Management
