The Fourth APFED NetRes Meeting or the International Workshop on “Innovation in Policy and Field Actions for Ecosystem Management and Biodiversity Conservation” was organized in the IGES Headquarters in Hayama, Japan on 26 June 2009.
The progress of APFED Showcase projects on biodiversity conservation and
ecosystem management was reviewed in the meeting. The APFED Showcase
projects discussed were:
1. “Wildlife-friendly Products: Linking Community Agricultural Cooperatives to Biodiversity Conservation”

3. “Demonstrating Ecological Mangrove Restoration at Krabi Estuary RAMSAR Site”
Wetlands International, Thailand Program, Thailand (Showcase Project 2007 under TEI)
4. “Ona Keto Community Reforestation Project”
Partners with Melanesians Inc., Papua New Guinea (Showcase Project 2007 under USP)
5. “Sustainable development of Settlements in the Karakum Desert”
The National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna, Turkmenistan (Showcase Project 2007 under KEI)
The 7th Asia-Europe Environment Roundtable on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services was organized in the Shonan
Village Centre in Hayama, Japan during 27-30 June 2009. The meeting compriised of a Scenario workshop followed
by Roundtable discussions.
The meetings were organized by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in collaboration with the
United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP/ROAP) and the Asia-Europe
Environment Foundation (ASEF).
The meetings were attended by 28 participants including the representatives and staff members of the organisations
that have been implementing APFED Showcase projects addressing biodiversity conservation and ecosystem
management, NetRes member institutes, co-organizers and resource persons.
